Q&A: Pattern Design

Q: What is the advantage of hierarchical structures? How to create hierarchical structure in NanoMaker?
What is the advantage of hierarchical structures? How to create hierarchical structure in NanoMaker?
A: Very often complicated structure consists of big number of repeatable fragments. There is very simple and elegant solution in NanoMaker that will allow you to overcome the problem of big files. Because you are trying to draw repeatable shapes just use hierarchical structures. To that end group repeatable elements in separate structure. Now, you can repeat this structure as many times as you need in your design as insertion and this will save resources and solve the problem with file size.

1. How to create new structure in file?
Go to Edit->Structure->New... dialog. Type new structure Name, for example "aa", fill other field if necessary. Press Ok. You will see new "aa" structure in the list.

2. How to edit new structure?
Select new structure "aa" in list at Edit->Structure dialog and press Edit button. In opened view for "aa" structure insert desired elements.

3. Or how to move group of existed elements to separate structure?
Select desired elements and go to Edit->Group dialog. Type new structure name, for example, "aa". Check in "Delete elements" checkbox and press OK button.

4. How to inset "aa" structures in "MAIN" structure 2 by 2 times with 10 um steps?
Make "MAIN" structure window active. Go to Insert->Structure... dialog. Select "aa" structure in Structure Name list. Set RepeatX and RepeatY for 2. Set StepX and StepY for 10 um. Press Ok.
